8x10 exhibition, The Corner Store Gallery, Orange
I was so thrilled to be part of the The 8x10 Group Exhibition at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange in February (2020). Artists were invited to submit work of any medium or subject matter that measured 8x10 inches (this included the framing). The exhibition included some beautiful original artworks submitted for selection from artists and designers from all over Australia.
I travelled to Orange for the opening night and spent a few days getting to know the area. I spent some time in the bushland around Mt Canobolas, painting and drawing the regeneration of the land after the fires a few years ago.
ARTIST STATEMENT
This work was created from the works in my travel journal that I took to New Zealand last year. I travelled in a van around the South Island capturing the colours and gestures of the landscape. Through automatic drawing and layering of paint I wanted to record the unique landscape of the Waiho river that emerges from the Franz Josef Glacier. The grinding from the movement of the ice creates a rock flour that gives the water it’s incredible blue and leaves the river banks with the debris of the landscape as the glacier melts and retreats up the valley.
